Maeve Cottin-Rack Elected to CA Association of Student Councils

Meet IGNITE alumna Maeve Cottin-Rack, a high school senior shaping civic education for millions of students across California!

In the spring of 2026, Maeve was elected State Vice President of the California Association of Student Councils for the 2026–27 term. Founded in 1947, the association is the state’s largest student-led leadership and advocacy organization, representing more than 5.8 million students.

Maeve has been a part of the association since she was in the eighth grade, most recently serving as a regional president. As State Vice President, she brings her prior experience at the regional level to lead the association’s grassroots efforts, including through designing and managing of leadership development and legislative advocacy programming for hundreds of students across the state as well as training and mentoring regional presidents and cabinet officers.

As an IGNITE intern and IGNITE the Capitol participant, Maeve found inspiration and connection with other women and girls across the IGNITE network. She shared feeling "empowered by the community of like-minded women who are passionate about impacting change" and noted "this mindset has definitely influenced my success."

Building on her own experience, Maeve is working to support other young leaders across California as they advocate for their schools and communities
