Julisa Morones Luna Named Newman Civic Fellow
Meet IGNITE Chapter Founder, Julisa Morones Luna, a Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow!
Julisa Morones Luna, a junior majoring in justice and social policy at the University of North Texas at Dallas, is officially a celebrated activist. Earlier this spring, she was named a 2025–26 Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow, a prestigious honor reserved for students driving real social change. Nominated by her university leadership, Julisa is recognized for advocating for the needs and interests of her fellow students while working to create an inclusive, engaged, and empowered campus community.
Julisa, a first-generation college student from Austin, comes from a family that values education and service—with parents that have always encouraged her education, two older sisters working in schools, and two younger sisters that inspire her to support women in her community. After joining an IGNITE Women in Student Government event in 2024, she founded an IGNITE Chapter on her campus and ran for Student Government Association President—a position she currently holds. Julisa is also a deputized voter registrar, leading voting registration events on her campus to help her classmates navigate and participate in the democratic process.
Julisa is passionate about advancing women in leadership and politics, uplifting marginalized voices, and addressing systemic barriers to equality. She is looking to attend law school after she graduates and then pursue a career in public policy, including eventually running for office. We can't wait to celebrate her next success!
