Launch your Leadership: A High School Council Series

Event Details

We’ve been told from a young age that you can be anything you want to be when you grow up. This can include running for office one day, being a community organizer and advocating for change in your community. But politics is still a very male-dominated field, which can discourage women from running for elected office. At IGNITE, we are on a mission to change that, and it all begins with you.

You already have immense power to shape your community, make change happen and have your voice heard. We’re here to show you how to make the most of this power. By joining this 5-week virtual training series, you’ll learn step-by-step how to engage with your community, take action on an issue you care about and collaborate with other young leaders.

You will not only gain the knowledge and tools to enact change locally, but you’ll also join a community of young women across the country who have the same goal of becoming a dynamic leader. At the end of this series, you’ll be ready to mobilize and activate your high school and local communities while building your own political ambition.

Session Information

1/21: Your Call to Leadership

What drives you? Discover your strengths and passions, and how to translate these into leadership at school and beyond. Leadership can look different for each of us. For example, it can look like sharing your ideas with teachers, your family and community leaders. This session takes you through the steps of identifying your unique path to leadership, and to find ways to utilize your voice in becoming a changemaker within your community.

2/18: Activate Your Leadership

It’s time to define your personal leadership style! Meet and collaborate with other young women who are on a path of changing what leadership looks like in their local community, on their high school campus, in our country, and beyond.

In this session you will:

  • Examine your personal definition of leadership
  • Identify your leadership qualities
  • Choose a cause to connect to and act on
  • Practice self-care so you are refreshed and ready to lead

3/25: Your Community, Your Voice

In this session, you will explore important issues that impact your community and learn how to take action in the form of self and community-based advocacy.

4/29: Leadership in Action

You’ve identified some key issues in your community, but now what? Now is the time to dig deeper in understanding and engaging with the key people who are effecting change in your community. By engaging with leaders in your community, you can build your network and accelerate action.

5/27: Ready. Set. LAUNCH!

You’ve received the tools, now it’s time to LAUNCH! This week will be a review of the learnings you’ve gained for enacting change in your community.  You will then take it a step further, by exploring how to keep building momentum, including how to mobilize your peers by bringing an IGNITE chapter to your high school campus.
