Time: 8:30 am-10:30 am ET

Join IGNITE and Georgia STOMP for a morning of training and action to end period poverty!

We'll equip you with the tools and confidence to use your political power to shape Georgia's policy agenda and champion bills advancing menstrual equity. You'll learn:

  • Georgia STOMP’s 2022 Legislative Priorities,
  • how to be an effective advocate for menstrual equity, and
  • how to actively participate in Georgia's law making process.

We will be joined by Georgia legislators and have the opportunity to ask questions of them. After the training, we’ll have time for social media advocacy and phone calls with your elected representatives.

Legislative Priorities in Georgia

We’re tackling menstrual equity and period poverty in Georgia. The needs of menstruators have historically not been taken into account when public policies were written and laws developed, an oversight that has led to persistent barriers to accessing menstrual products. Menstrual equity is achieved when these barriers are eliminated in all facets of public life.

Georgia STOMP has championed some big wins in recent years - like free period products in low-income schools - but we have more work to do. IGNITE and Georgia STOMP will coach you to contact your elected leaders and ask for their support to:

  • Eliminate the 4% State Sales Tax on Menstrual Products (HB810)

  • Expand current $1.25 M Department of Education funding for period products in schools to include 5th graders

  • Return Department of Public Health funding to pre-pandemic level of $500K

IGNITE is for all cis and trans women, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space the centers the experiences of young women.

About Georgia STOMP

This event is in partnership with Georgia STOMP. They are a grassroots volunteer coalition of organizations formed to address the issues of menstrual equity and period poverty in Georgia. First and foremost: they are here to eliminate the 4% state sales tax Georgians are charged on the medically necessary, unavoidable items they need to manage their periods with dignity. Georgia STOMP’s five pillars are:

  • Address period poverty and its effects on education in our state’s public schools
  • Work with state, local and county agencies to ensure menstrual products are available in adequate supply for those incarcerated
  • Vigorously pursue the elimination of state sales tax on menstrual products, holding that it is a minimum that can be done to address menstrual equity in Georgia
  • Collaborate with Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security to improve the availability of menstrual products following an emergency
  • Advance an understanding of menstrual equity and why it is needed in Georgia alongside efforts to eliminate period poverty
