EVENT INFO
On June 25, 2013, the US Supreme Court issued a devastating decision, Shelby County v. Holder, which dealt a significant blow to the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The effects of this ruling were immediate. The same day, Texas officials announced their intentions to implement the nation’s most restrictive voter identification law.
Now, as Congress continues to try to pass the SAVE America Act, voting rights are under national threat. This bill would dramatically restrict how Americans register to vote and cast their ballots, disproportionately affecting women and young people.
Join IGNITE for an interactive virtual workshop that will help you understand how existing and proposed voter laws affect you and your peers. Together, we will explore strategies to fight voter suppression, to advocate for the restoration of the Voting Rights Act, and to hold political systems in our communities accountable.
Whether you’re new to political leadership or already organizing in your community, this workshop will prepare you for ongoing and future elections. During the session, you will:
- Learn how voter suppression affects voting, representation, and community outcomes
- Discover ways to advocate for the restoration of the Voting Rights Act of 1965
- Connect with peers nationwide who are committed to advancing voting rights in our country
Join us and get ready to advocate for yourself and others and lead with your passion.
