EVENT INFO
Have you ever seen a map that changed how you understood an issue? Maps can make stories clearer, patterns easier to see, and problems harder to ignore.
Join IGNITE for a one-hour virtual workshop designed for beginners who want to learn how mapping can support advocacy and policy change. This session offers a simple, welcoming introduction to GIS (Geographic Information Systems)—no prior experience or technical background required. We’ll walk through what GIS is, why it matters, and how everyday maps can be used to highlight community needs, inequities, and opportunities for change.
During this session, you will:
- Learn what GIS is and how it’s used in advocacy—explained in plain language
See real examples of maps being used to tell stories and support social change - Explore how mapping can strengthen organizing, campaigns, and community outreach
- Get beginner-friendly tools and resources to help you take your first steps in mapping
Whether you’re new to advocacy, organizing on campus, or just curious about how maps can make an impact, this workshop is a great place to start.
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of how mapping works, why it’s powerful, and simple ways to use it in your own advocacy efforts.
