EVENT INFO

Even today, gender parity in US politics remains far from reality. Women hold only 28% of seats in Congress, 31% of state legislative seats, 24% of governorships, and 25% of mayoral positions nationwide. These disparities are not about talent or ambition—they reflect persistent systemic barriers, cultural biases, and the uneven pathways women must navigate to lead.

Join IGNITE for an interactive virtual workshop designed to help young people recognize how sexism shows up in political spaces and build the confidence and strategies to challenge it. This training will also unpack and debunk persistent myths about women in leadership—including challenging false narratives around electability, ambition, and competence that continue to shape political systems.

Whether you’re new to political leadership or already organizing in your community, this workshop will prepare you to navigate bias, advocate for yourself and others, and lead with power.

During this session, you will:

  • Explore how gender disparities in elected leadership affect policymaking, representation, and community outcomes
  • Hear from young leaders who are confronting gender bias and reshaping what leadership looks like in their communities
  • Connect with peers nationwide who are committed to advancing gender equity in politics

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of sexism in political contexts, plus practical tools and resources to advocate, lead, and support others with confidence.
