EVENT INFO

Across the country, IGNITE network members are leading change. From registering voters and providing the tools people need to confidently cast a ballot, to hosting legislative meetings with decision-makers—you are doing the critical work. But here’s the reality: An IG Story lasts 24 hours, but a headline lasts a lifetime. Social media is only half the battle; to drive lasting change on the issues that matter, we have to move into the mainstream.

In this session, we'll demystify traditional media. We’ll show you how to turn campus and community activism into citywide conversations by mastering the tools of local media relations

You'll learn about:

  • The news cycle and what makes for a great story
  • Strategies for building lasting relationships with relevant local reporters and news outlets
  • Approaches to crafting a professional press release

You'll also develop a game plan to leverage local media to amplify your advocacy efforts. This will include:

  • Identifying local media outlets that care about your cause
  • Identifying upcoming events or activities that you can pitch to those outlets
  • Create a list of materials to develop to support effective pitches

Date: Thursday, April 23rd

Time: 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM ET | 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM PT
