Ohio Activate Your Advocacy Bootcamp

Are you passionate about serving your community? Are you passionate about making a difference?

Activate Your Advocacy Bootcamp provides legislative training for young women in Ohio. Upon completion of the bootcamp, IGNITE will assist you in securing an internship at the Ohio Statehouse in Winter/Spring 2022. We will provide the training, mentorship, and support that you will need to succeed before and during your internship.

While most internships should be in-person, we are also prepared to deliver some, or all, our programming virtually if necessary. Apply here

Program eligibility

Activate Your Advocacy Bootcamp is available to any self-identifying women who reside in Ohio State and are at least 18 years old. Women of color and LGBTQ+ women are encouraged to apply. No prior work experience is required.

Application process key dates

  • October 1 - Application opens
  • November 1 - Application closes
  • Participants will be notified if they have been selected mid November.

Bootcamp timing and commitment

Participants must commit to participate in training and professional development sessions on the following dates:

  • Welcome: November 20, 2021, at 1 - 3pm ET (virtual)
  • Training:December 18, 2021,  at 1 - 3pm ET (virtual)
  • Training: December 19, 2021, at 1 - 3pm ET (virtual)
  • Training: January 15, 2022, at 1 - 3pm ET (virtual)
  • Training: January 16, 2022, at 1 - 3pm ET (virtual)
  • Training: January 21, 2022, at 4 - 6pm ET (in-person)

Internship timing and commitment

The start dates for the internships may vary slightly, depending on the offices, but generally speaking offices begin the internship program in January/February, and they end in May/June.

Additionally, we will be meeting once a month:

  • Happy Hour/Dinner: February 4, 2022 at 5:30 - 7:00pm ET (in-person)
  • Happy Hour/Dinner: March 4, 2022 at 5:30 - 7:00pm ET (in-person)
  • Happy Hour/Dinner: April 1, 2022 at 5:30 - 7:00pm ET (in-person)
  • Graduation Day: May 20, 2022 at 5:30 - 7:00pm ET (in-person)

Q: What is the internship?

A: IGNITE will assist you in securing an internship at the Ohio Statehouse in Winter/Spring 2022, upon successfully completing the bootcamp training. We will provide the training, mentorship, and support that you will need to succeed before and during your internship.

The internship is a five-month opportunity for women to gain entry-level experience in politics and government at the State House.

The internships are part-time.

Q: When does the internship start?

A: Start dates will vary slightly but the internships will take place between January/February and  May/June 2022. Interns must commit to attend training sessions and graduation day on the following days, in addition to their internships at the State House:

Q: Do I need to be a student to apply?

A: No, you do not need to be a current student to apply, however you can apply if you are a current student. 

Q: Do I need to have prior work experience to apply?

A: No, you do not need any prior work experience to apply. In fact, our program is designed to serve participants who are in the early stages of building their skills and resume.

Q: Does the program cost money?

A: No! The program is offered free to accepted applicants.

Q: Is this an employment opportunity?

A: No. This is an internship program that supports women who want to work in government and policy. The internship provides education, training, and mentorship to individuals who are simultaneously working as interns for elected officials.

Q: Is the program provided in person or virtually?

A: It is our goal to deliver in-person training and internships, but we are preparing to deliver all our programming virtually if necessary. We will let our participants know as soon as possible.
