Sofia Huizar, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer

Sofia recently served as Communications Director for the Immigration Hub, supporting immigration-related advocacy through innovative communications and partnerships. Previously, she served as Global Director of Communications at Pro Mujer, a social enterprise promoting gender equality in Latin America. In this role, Sofia led the development and execution of integrated communications and marketing strategies across the United States and Latin America, including the implementation of innovative programs in financial and digital inclusion, health, and entrepreneurship, benefiting
underserved women in Latin America. Sofia additionally served at Pro Mujer as Director of Strategy and Innovation and as Communications Manager. Her previous experience includes designing and executing growth and marketing strategies for Alight Labs, a growth consulting firm focused on catalyzing early stage startups. Sofia was a member of BeVisible’s Millennial Advisory Board, promoting networks and career opportunities for the Latinx community in the U.S., and serves as an Advisor to fintech startup Velara, bridging the gender gap in access to finance. Sofia has a M.A. in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from New York University and a B.A. in History from Yale University.

As a nonpartisan 501c3, IGNITE builds political ambition in high school and college-aged young women in their own communities. IGNITE provides civic education, exposure to women in political leadership, hands-on training, career opportunities, and a peer network of women who support and nurture each other’s aspirations for civic and political leadership.
