Nsé Ufot: a champion for voting rights
Nsé Ufot, the CEO of the New Georgia Project, has been working hard her whole career to ensure voter protection and promote civic engagement. Born in Nigeria and raised in Atlanta, her ties to Georgia run deep. Ufot received her Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Institute of Technology before pursuing her law degree from the University of Dayton.
Her passion is not just for voting rights, but also for activism and involvement pertaining to education. Ufot served as the Assistant Executive Director for Canada’s largest teacher’s union, the Canadian Association of Teachers. She’s also been a lobbyist and advocate within the American Association of University Professors, using her passion for labor law legislation.
Currently, Ufot is working passionately to register eligible Black, Latinx, and Asian-American voters in Georgia so they can exercise their civic duty and have a direct say in their representation. Her goal is to make voting easier for every voter and in each election. To date, her organization has added around 425,000 Georgians to the voter rolls. Her twist is to incentivize the registration process via gamification, using her targeting and mobile apps to engage previously unengaged Americans.
While Stacey Abrams is largely credited with Georgia’s incredible turnout in 2020, we must remember that she did not act alone and amazing women like Nsé were right there with her. Her passion and commitment inspire us all to fight for our rights and ensure our access to the ballot box is not restricted.
