Meet IGNITE alumna, Fiona Wu, a Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow!

Fiona Lu, a junior triple majoring in Asian American studies, labor studies, and public affairs at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is now a celebrated advocate. She is a 2025–26 Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow, a prestigious honor reserved for students demonstrating an exceptional commitment to civic engagement.

Fiona is the co-founder and co-executive director of What We All Deserve (WWAD), a youth-led organization dedicated to advancing a future that is poverty-free, anti-racist, and centers community power. Through WWAD, she successfully advocated for California state bills ensuring access to menstrual products and banning scholarship displacement. Reflecting on this work, she has said "I've truly witnessed the impact that young people can make on transforming policy systems for social change." Fiona is also encouraging her peers to become advocates through a civic engagement course she is teaching through UCLA's Undergraduate Student Initiated Education program. "It’s also the pivotal moment to develop civic identity... I want them [her peers] to see what’s possible now, based on what other young people have already done...to know they belong in these spaces and that their contributions matter."

Fiona is passionate about economic and social justice, and has been involved in youth policy advocacy since she was a high school student. She's participated several IGNITE programs, including our Activate Your Advocacy bootcamp, IGNITE the Capitol advocacy days, IGNITE the Vote campaign, and Young Women Run training. And, she's since shared her own experience with others in our community, serving as a featured speaker for a recent Activate Your Advocacy bootcamp. Join us in cheering on Fiona as she continues to prove that when young women lead, entire communities win!
